December 2012

The Last Day

Woke up grand. Chatted on the Facebook and then had to get up and scramble stuff together to take with me to Fairhaven for the run. Got out the door at 6:16 so 16 minutes over what I had hoped

Drove up the I-5, Phil messaged me that she wouldn’t be going today. I looked down at me watch and figured if I hit the gas I may make the earlier start at 8am for the run. But first I had to pull a Phil and stopped off at the Rest Stop to use the toilet. Back on the road and found my way down to the starting point for the run. Parked at 7:50 and went over to get me bib and shirt. I had to decide whether I was going to run the half or full at this point. Give me the half I said. Then the girl asked me if I was going out in the early start group. I said yes. She marked everything down

I rushed out to my car and took off my jacket. Turned on me Garmin Running watch and the fucker wouldn’t work. Bollix. I played with iit for a minute to no avail I grabbed my bottle of water and went down to the starting line. All the people standing there looked very fit and in good shape. I realized I should have waited for the 9 o clock starting group. Plus everyone were wearing jackets and long running pants. Thermal underwear to boot. It was cold up at this side of the State. I stood there like a East Clare Farmer would in the summer with only a tee shirt and a pair of cargo shorts. In the one minute wait I had there the fellow said something about the trail markings and people getting lost. I didn’t get what he was saying. He said “GO”

Off I go in a group of 48 people who were happy to get the early start in. I stay back with the bunch feeling them out for a few minutes and realized they were taking it easy. I passed my way through them up to the front runners section. Got in behind the first group of 5. There was a younger fellow that traded places on and off with me. We both were going from 5th and 6th place passing each other on opposite bends. I had John Fogerty Live from Los Angeles on my iPod. Finally the fellow lost steam and I caught up to two girls who were in 3rd and 4th place in our group. Thinking I might get lost on the trail I stuck in behind them. I liked one of their arses and this was to be my carrot as I ran like a donkey for a long time behind them up to the turn around point. Grabbed a drink and a few candies there. Turned around and headed back along the gravely, mucky, beautiful trails towards the finish line.

I had now worked my way into 3rd place of my group since I figured I knew my way back. About mile 8 I began to run into the 9 o’clock runners who started behind us. They started cheering and clapping one by one as I passed them. I removed my head phones to hear the praise they were giving me. I was getting the high fives, waves, smiles, well done’s, great job, the wows. They knew this once Irish farmer and one time donkey was a force to reckon with. I ran on proud as I could be. With one mile left to go another runner caught up to me. We chatted for a bit. He was also surprised I was an old goat leading the pack. He continued on. I followed on behind him and finished number 4 of our group. I was fecking delighted shur. My time war just over 2 hours or maybe under somewhere, I was delighted to get such a good time on a Trail Run. Fecking delighted really

I got my medal, went inside and grabbed some candy and water. The people were making me grilled cheese sandwiches and lightly salted fried potatoes. I refused and just said I wanted water. Then straight up to my car and headed back down the highway. Got home at 11:30am

Went inside and ate. Then chatted with Mary back in Ireland for a while on the phone. Natasha came home early and I ended me call. We chatted and ate chocolate for a good while. I worked on me 2012 stuff on the computer after that

Then finished of a movie I started last night called “The Eclipse”

The movie was ok in a typical Irish kind of way.
Got ready to go over to Phil’s house to ring in the New Year

Got there in good time. Natasha and I were the first to arrive. Charley was in the shower. Soon after. Mitch, Brenda, Natalie, Thea, John, Marci, Megan, Chris, Stephanie, Ricky, Tammi, Lori and another couple I didn’t know. We had a great night of chatting and joy. I was my usual shocking self but Natasha may have beaten me to being the most shocking

My last meal of the year was to be 2 grilled cheese, peppers, onions and mushrooms sandwiches. Had Cranberry and pear crumble with ice cream for dessert

We counted down watching the Space Needle go off.

What a good year we just had

Kayleigh

Last night I was wide awake again before bed.

Did manage to fall asleep after watching a Christmas show on RTE
Woke up feeling better. The effects of the bad eating has almost wore off

Up and had the auld tea and toast. Headed up to Bridget and we went for our week 1 Eugene Marathon training long run. 10 miles today.

A great chat and nice run

Stopped into Jiffy Lube on the way home for an oil change. Got tea at the QFC Starbucks

Hom

At

Had lunch later on

Had dinner after that. Watched the Seahawks win on the telly

Lazed the evening away also. Did chat to me young cousin Kayleigh in Ireland on the Facebook for the first time though. Now a nap to see if I can get up and go for a run tomorrow

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 2,100 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 4 years to get that many views.

I am off

Slept terrible all night. Woke up and watched shows, movies and porn

Got up and relaxed a minute or two. Then made waffles for me wifey and I for breakfast.  Then put on me running stuff and headed down to the for a run.

Today’s run is for pace. I want to run a 4 hour marathon in Eugene so I have to run a 9 minute 9 second mile at pace today. Did My Run around the lake and zoo o I kept it at a 8 minute and 52 second pace. Better than I figured I would today. That would give me a 3 hour and 52 minute marathon. Good enough for Eugene

Came home to Natasha.I emailed the office to let them all know I was going to be out of town in February.
Hello all,
Just to let you know I will be off on a break from February 7th 2013 through February 21st 2013.
If anything blows up or someone gets killed in India or Nepal during this time, it was not me.
Love Donal

I got the grinder and ground down the sidewalk where it has sunk down a bit over the years. No the chance of a trip hazard is eliminated. Then quickly went inside and threw on a shirt to go over to see “Les Miserables” at Thornton Placelesmisposterscifidrive.jpg

It was probably the best movie I saw all year in the cinema. Victor Hugo would be proud.

Stopped into QFC for provisions. Well Natasha did. I sat in the car

Home for tea

Fecked about

Talked with Sargy in Lanzarote for a wee while on the Viber

Ate dinner and dessert

Talked to others on the Facebook and now a movie or something

I will go for the something

Nigger

Woke up a few times during the night but managed to finish a movie I started when I went to bed. “Jackass 3D”

Headed back towards the castle and waited for me bride to show up. We head over to Thornton Place to see “DJango”

Another brilliant film by Quentin Tarantino. One of his better ones

Home and ate the dinner and a wee dessert

Bollixed around on the computer to end the day. I chatted to Una gan a guna earlier today on the phone also

Now a rest

Merry Christmas

Woke up and stretched like a cat

Up and out to work. Headed back to Woodinville today. Tim, Bill, Jeff, Brandon and Marvin on hand today. Worked on floors some more. Grinding and filling. Got a lot done. Got out of there later than planned

Headed off for home. Bridget had called and said she would be at Greenlake around 4. I called her back later on and it was going to be a wee bit later so I stopped of and got me running stiff

She showed up and we went on a 30 minute Tempo Run   Had a grand chat and talked less for the middle push. Walked back to the car and headed home

Natasha had dinner arriving on the table as soon as I got home. Had dessert tonight also

In continuing with the Christmas Spirit we put on another movie. “Joyeux Noel”

:joyeux-noel-original.jpg

We saw it in France last Christmas and it was as good now as it was back then
